The 'Iwabird is the largest bird in Hawaii. 'Iwain Hawaiian means thief, because instead of doing its own hunting, the 'Iwawill steal the fish from the mouths of smaller birds. 'Iwabirds are able to fly for long distances (even for days!) without resting on land. Large populations of 'Iwabirds can be found on the north shore of Kaua'i.
"He 'iwa ho'ohaehae nāulu" means "An 'iwa that teases the rain clouds." This can refer to a smartly dressed person whose look inspires envy.
